Main ingredients

  • 1 block firm tofu, drained and pressed For the crispiest results, opt for firmer varieties.
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari for a gluten-free option
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • to taste chopped green onions and chili flakes for garnish Optional garnishes

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and maple syrup until well combined.
  • Add the tofu cubes to the marinade and let them soak for about 15 minutes.
  • Sprinkle the cornstarch and sesame seeds over the marinated tofu, gently tossing to coat each piece evenly.

Cooking

  • Spread the coated tofu on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
  • Bake for approximately 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, flipping halfway through.

Notes

Let tofu cool completely before storing in an airtight container for up to three days. Reheat in the oven for a few minutes to regain crispiness. Consider adding leftover tofu to salads or grain bowls.
