Preparation

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until it becomes translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper, cooking until browned and fully cooked, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, apple cider vinegar, and soy sauce. Pour this mixture over the cooked beef in the skillet and stir to coat the beef evenly.
  • Allow the mixture to simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

Assembly

  • In serving bowls, layer the cooked rice at the bottom. Top with the sweet and spicy ground beef mixture.
  • Finish by sprinkling chopped green onions and sesame seeds on top. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

To elevate the dish, use fresh halal ground beef. Adjust heat with red pepper flakes or hot sauce. Substitute rice with quinoa or cauliflower rice for a low-carb option. Don’t skip the garnishes for more crunch.
