Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups gluten-free all-purpose flour Use a blend that includes xanthan gum.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder Ensure it is fresh for best results.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Optional, for a touch of sweetness.

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup cold butter Or a halal butter alternative, cubed.
  • ¾ cup milk A plant-based equivalent can be used.
  • 1 large egg Optional, for a richer flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the gluten-free flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined.
  • Add cubed cold butter to the flour mixture and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg (if using). Gradually pour this into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and gently pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut out biscuits.

Baking

  • Place the biscuits close together on a lined baking sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the tops are golden brown.
  • Serve warm with butter, honey, or your favorite jam.

Notes

Keep ingredients cold for flaky layers. Mixing just until combined will help maintain that fluffy texture.
