Equipment

  • large skillet or wok
  • steamer or pot with steamer basket
  • mixing bowl
  • whisk
  • tongs or spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank or sirloin steak (thinly sliced against the grain)
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1/3 cup tamari or coconut aminos
  • 2 tsp arrowroot powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp raw honey
  • 2 tbsp avocado or sesame oil

Instructions

  • Lightly steam broccoli for 2 minutes until just tender. Rinse under cold water and set aside.
  • Whisk together tamari, honey, arrowroot, and a splash of water to create the sauce.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Sear beef in batches, about 2 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same pan, sauté garlic and ginger just until fragrant (30–60 seconds).
  • Pour in the sauce and stir for 1–2 minutes until slightly thickened.
  • Return beef and broccoli to the pan. Toss well to coat and simmer 1 more minute.

Notes

For paleo or Whole30 versions, substitute honey with date puree or omit it. Swap coconut aminos for tamari to reduce sodium. Can be served over rice, cauliflower rice, or gluten-free noodles.
