Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef Lean ground beef is recommended.
  • 4 cups broccoli florets Washed and trimmed.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil Divided for cooking.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce Or tamari for gluten-free option.
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce Or mushroom stir-fry sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar Or honey.
  • 1/2 cup beef or chicken stock Or water.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water To create a slurry.
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Garnishes

  • Sesame seeds Optional, for garnish.
  • Sliced green onions Optional, for garnish.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all ingredients and make the cornstarch slurry. Cut broccoli into bite-sized florets.

Cooking

  • Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, season lightly, and cook until browned and no longer pink, breaking up clumps with a spatula. Drain excess fat if desired.
  • Push beef to one side, add remaining oil, then onion and garlic. Sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Toss in the broccoli florets and stir to combine with beef and aromatics.
  • Pour in soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and stock. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer.
  • Add the cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli—about 1 minute.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning. Top with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve over rice, noodles, or cauliflower rice for a lighter option.

Notes

Use fresh broccoli for the best texture—blanched florets stay bright and crisp. Don't overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if needed. This dish reheats beautifully; add a splash of water when reheating to rejuvenate the sauce.
