  • 1 can Crushed tomatoes Base of the chili.
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste For richness and thickness.
  • 1-2 cans Beans (black beans, kidney beans, or both) Adds protein and heartiness.
  • 4 cups Broth or water Use gluten-free options if necessary.
  • to taste Chipotle in adobo or hot sauce For heat.
  • to taste Salt and pepper To season.

Witch's Stew (optional)

  • 1 pkg Lime or black cherry gelatin For a creepy, jiggly potion.
  • as needed Gummy worms, candy eyeballs, or spooky candy Optional fun add-ins.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large pot, brown the ground beef or turkey over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent.
  • Stir in chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, and cinnamon.
  • Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beans, and broth. Bring to a simmer.
  • Add chipotle in adobo or hot sauce to taste. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Let the chili simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

Witch's Stew Preparation

  • Prepare the gelatin according to package instructions.
  • Suspend gummy worms and spooky candy in the gelatin before it sets.
  • Chill until firm and serve in a cauldron bowl next to chili toppings.

Notes

To thicken chili, let it simmer uncovered or mash some beans. Leftovers taste even better the next day. For a fun topping experience, create spooky names for your toppings.
