Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika optional, for a slight kick

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup dairy-free milk or milk of choice
  • 2 large eggs

Main Ingredients

  • Sausages or hot dogs of your choice ensure they are gluten-free and halal
  • Oil for frying vegetable or canola oil works well

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all the ingredients in one place. This makes the process smoother and more enjoyable.

Making the Batter

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the gluten-free flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the dairy-free milk and eggs. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Prepare the Hot Dogs

  • Insert wooden skewers into the hot dogs, ensuring they go in about halfway.

Frying

  • In a deep pot or frying pan, heat about 2–3 inches of oil over medium-high heat.
  • Dip each hot dog into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place them in the hot oil.
  • Fry each corn dog for about 3–4 minutes, turning occasionally until golden brown on all sides.
  • Once cooked, remove the corn dogs and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serving

  • Enjoy your warm Gluten-Free Corn Dogs with your favorite dipping sauces, such as ketchup, mustard, or even a vegan ranch!

Notes

Choose the right gluten-free flour blend that includes xanthan gum for the best frying results. Maintaining the oil temperature is crucial to avoid burnt outside and raw inside.
