Ingredients

For the filling

  • 4 cups peeled and sliced apples (preferably Granny Smith or your favorite seasonal variety) Mix of sweet and tart apples is recommended.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

For the crisp topping

  • 1 cup gluten-free oats
  • 1 cup gluten-free flour blend
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey For a vegan version, use maple syrup.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine sliced apples with lemon juice, coconut sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir until the apples are well-coated and set aside.

Crisp Topping

  • In another bowl, mix together the gluten-free oats, gluten-free flour blend, melted coconut oil, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt. Combine until the mixture is crumbly yet holds together when pressed.

Combine and Bake

  • In a greased baking dish, spread the apple mixture evenly, then sprinkle the crisp topping generously over the apples.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are soft.

Notes

For best results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples like Granny Smith. You can prepare the filling and topping a day in advance and assemble just before baking for a fresh dessert. Serve with dairy-free ice cream or coconut whipped cream for an added treat.
