Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 2 cups broccoli florets Fresh or frozen, if using frozen thaw and drain well
  • 2 cups cauliflower florets Fresh or frozen, if using frozen thaw and drain well

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound sausage Use your favorite type (chicken, turkey, or pork)
  • 1 cup heavy cream For a dairy-free option, substitute with coconut milk or almond milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese For variations, consider mozzarella or Gruyère
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or almond flour Optional for topping

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a pot of boiling water, blanch the broccoli and cauliflower for about 3-4 minutes, then drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, brown the sausage over medium heat until cooked through. Drain any excess fat.

Combining Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, mix the blanched vegetables with the cooked sausage. Add heavy cream, garlic powder, and half of the cheddar cheese. Season with salt and pepper, then stir until well-combined.

Baking

  • Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and spread it evenly. Top with the remaining cheddar cheese. If using breadcrumbs or almond flour, sprinkle over the cheese for an extra crunch.
  • Place in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden and bubbling.

Serving

  • Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy the creamy, cheesy goodness with a side salad or on its own!

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider adding some sautéed onions or peppers to your vegetable mix. If you prefer a spicier kick, incorporate a pinch of red pepper flakes into the sausage while cooking. Ensure your sausage is fully cooked by checking its internal temperature, which should reach 160°F (71°C). Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C).
