Tofu Ingredients

  • 1 block firm tofu Extra firm tofu works best.
  • ½ cup corn starch
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup your favorite glaze (like a sweet chili sauce) Feel free to experiment with different sauces.

Preparation

  • Wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place something heavy on top for about 20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  • Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes to ensure even cooking.

Cooking Methods

  • For the Air Fryer Method: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Toss the tofu cubes with corn starch, salt, and pepper until evenly coated. Place the tofu in one layer in the air fryer basket and cook for about 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through for even crispiness.
  • For the Pan-Fried Method: In a large skillet, heat a couple of tablespoons of oil over medium heat. Add the tofu cubes to the skillet, cooking until golden and crispy, about 7-10 minutes per side.

Glazing the Tofu

  • Once the tofu is crispy, drizzle the glaze over it and toss gently to coat. Allow the glaze to caramelize slightly for added sweetness.

Notes

Choose quality firm tofu for better texture and flavor absorption. Pressing is critical for crispy tofu. Experiment with different glazes such as spicy teriyaki or homemade peanut sauce.
